Drinkwitz should take as much time as he needs but this is the most important hire that he will make.
There’s a lot of talk about Elarbee and that might work, however i wonder how effective Elarbee would appear without all of the tempo. If we go back to being a forced tempo team its going to be disappointing and i dont think thats the approach Drinkwitz wants.
The heart of the Drinkwitz offense is the zone blocking schemes which he deploys almost exclusively. The key to being good at zone blocking is great coaching and lots of reps. Players need to know exactly what they are supposed to do an when. We ran a lot of zone blocking schemes this year and some were kinda clever but the players just could not figure it out. Guys were rarely on the same page. During the second half of the season it was basically chaos.
The OL coaches that Drinkwitz worked with at Boise, NCSU and App St are all either coordinators or head coaches now. They were damn good at their jobs. We need a tactician to teach our OL and should back up the brinks truck for the right hire.
