For those of you who weren't at the game, you probably missed two fabulous moments.
As my husband and I walked around the arena before the game, we saw Mini Mizzou gathered in a corner with their director. They were practicing "O Canada" to play as a tribute to Kassius. Before the game, the color guard came out with the American flag and a Canadian flag and Mini Mizzou played O, Canada. You could tell Kassius was really moved. (I'll make no comment on the electric violin rendition of our National Anthem that followed.)
Then during the usual Veterans United tribute to a military member, twin Mizzou cheerleaders were being honored in place of their father who had been deployed for 10 ten months and then, BOOM! he ran out on the court to surprise them.
As an aside, there was also a parading of the Border Line Trophy with Barry Odom and football players. And a time out with Jeremy Maclin, Justin Britt, Sean Weatherspoon and Charles Harris waving to the crowd. Nice for the recruits to see and hear the reaction of the crowd.
I am supposed to be "homebound" after hip replacement surgery on February 19. So I chose to go "home" to Mizzou yesterday for the game. It was the best therapy ever. Shoutout to the guys who drive the golf carts from handicapped parking to the arena and the ticket office who exchanged our season tickets for handicapped seating.
I am M-I-Z proud!
