Let me get this out of the way first: Yes, Albert O's forward progress was stopped and the play should have been blown dead before the fumble. I agree it was a bad call that cost Mizzou at least seven points. I am not going to listen to the argument that the entire game would have been different if it were called. Missouri had 53 minutes of game time left at that point. Big play yes. Bad call yes. Not the reason Missouri is down 20-7 and not the reason for the loss if that's what it becomes.
Here are the things you need to do to upset a team like Georgia: Force turnovers, commit no turnovers, win special teams.
Here are the things Missouri has done so far: Commit turnovers, lose special teams.
It's fairly amazing to me (and a nod that Georgia hasn't played all that well) that this is a two score game.
Apparently, hiring a coach dedicated to special teams isn't the cure all for the special teams. That blocked punt was horrendous and shouldn't happen.
Defensively, Missouri has been really good. Credit to those guys. Coming off last week, everyone had left them for dead. They effectively gave up three points. 17 were a result of a blocked punt TD, a fumble return TD and a drive that started at the 7 on a dropped pass.
Georgia is approaching this as if it thinks it can win the game with 20 points. And that might be accurate.
The No 1 problem offensively is simple: Missouri can't get open. The Tigers have good players at the skill positions. But they still don't have players that can win one on one matchups with the elite defenses in the SEC. This game is going to hurt Drew Lock in the eyes of scouts and media if it continues this way. And while that might be fair, I'd ask you this: Where he is supposed to throw the ball? He doesn't have anybody open and largely hasn't had enough time to wait for someone to come open. He looks like he's starting to feel pressure even when it isn't there.
Missouri has to score (and probably a touchdown) on its opening drive of the second half. If that happens, we can still have a game. If not, I don't see how we have a game.
