First and foremost, let's shout out the Tiger defense. Kentucky was 0/4 on third down and 0/2 on fourth down. The second fourth down stop led directly to the Mizzou touchdown right before half. Sure the Cats have thrown the ball better than they have against anyone else this season. But they've also run the ball 18 times for just 51 yards. The Wildcats were averaging 5.3 yards per carry coming into this game. They averaged 2.8 in that half and had exactly one carry of more than six yards.
Drew Lock hasn't been perfect, but he's been pretty darn good. He's missed on a couple deep throws, but had a couple others that could have been caught. And he's hung on to the football which was job one against this Kentucky defense.
The Tigers have run the ball effectively. They're averaging just 3.2 yards per carry, but I feel like the run game has done its job.
The offensive line has been fantastic.
Nice job by Brendan Scales, Sam Bailey and Cameron Wilkins filling in at tight end/H back without Kendall Blanton and Daniel Parker Jr. available.
Missouri gets the ball to start the third quarter. If the Tigers can score, I'm not going to call this game over, but it's going to take Kentucky completely out of its comfort zone and make them play a game they don't want to play. It's going to make Benny Snell and Terry Wilson's running ability far less important. HUGE drive coming up for the Tigers.
Last thing here, fans always notice the mistakes their own team makes. They usually don't notice the ones the other team makes. Kentucky dropped a potential touchdown and had two crushing penalties inside its own ten yard line. The Tigers haven't been perfect, but they've by far made fewer mistakes than the opposition. Keep that up for 30 more minutes and Barry Odom and Drew Lock pick up the biggest win of their careers.
