First of all if these two teams were going to play and people were going to watch it, they should have moved tipoff to noon. It lived up to pretty much everything we expected it to.
Both teams really blew chances to build huge leads. Vandy was dreadful for ten minutes and Mizzou couldn't get ahead by more than three. Vandy went up nine and then let Mizzou back in it with seven straight points and a 9-1 run to finish the half.
Very few halves in which Javon Pickett leads the team in field goal attempts are going to go well. Pickett was 2-7 and had the most attempts on the team until two minutes were left. Dru Smith did attempt ten shots with half of them coming in the last four minutes. He started 1-6 but made a couple and finished 3-10. Don't think it's a coincidence Missouri started coming back when Smith basically started taking every shot. But I can't imagine a scenario in which Pickett should ever lead this team in shots for nearly a full half. I'll live with Dru Smith going 2-7. Pickett shouldn't.
Scottie Pippen Jr. was quite good (did you know his dad played for the Bulls?). He had 15 points on 6-8 shooting. All the other players in the game combined were 14-46 from the floor.
The teams combined to shoot 5-25 from three point range.
Xavier Pinson was pretty much a non factor in eight minutes, partly due to two fouls. He's got to be more involved in the second half. Good to see Mark Smith and Jeremiah Tilmon back. Both had moments of impact, especially early. Will be interesting to see how much they can play in the second half. Anybody's game in the last 20 minutes. There are no must win games for teams scuffling around .500, but losing this one would be pretty bad and would almost certainly put Mizzou playing on the first day of the league tournament.
