Well, this is a much more normal game than a week ago. The defense looks worlds improved and the offense has come back to earth.
Missouri ran the ball 22 times and threw it only 14. I'll be interested to see after the game if they came into the game looking to do that or it was based on the look they were getting.
Drew Lock has not been sharp at all. One nice touch pass to Jason Reese and a couple bullets on that final drive, but overall not very good. As has been the case for two years, he's GOT to do it against a good defense. This second half starts to determine what he is. Is he a winning quarterback who can do it against good competition or does he carve up the patsies and wilt against the tougher teams?
That said, Dimetrios Mason had a terrible drop and J'Mon Moore a bad but less terrible one.
Damarea Crockett is a beast. Ride him as far as you can. If he says he can carry it 40 times, give it to him 40 times.
Defensively, Terry Beckner dominated the first quarter. Cale Garrett and Terez Hall have clearly established themselves at two linebacker spots. I don't think I've seen Eric Beisel on the field. Brandon Lee and Kaleb Prewett are rotating at the hybrid spot.
DeMarkus Acy has been a little better if he could quit committing third down penalties. The safeties are way better. I wouldn't play Cam Hilton in the second half either. Don't fix what ain't broke.
Someone needs to tell Johnathon Johnson at halftime he's allowed to catch a punt.
Speaking of special teams, man, I feel like I pile on the kid, but geez Tucker McCann. I have a hard time believing that the strategy was to kick the ball low and directly to Deebo Samuel. Does the coverage need to be better? Sure. But if you're trying to cover for a kick to one side or the other and you get a line drive right to the guy, it's hard. And the blocked field goal is on McCann. SC didn't get any penetration. They weren't really trying to block it. You're going to have enough leg on a 24 yarder. The ONLY thing you have to do is get it in the air. McCann didn't.
That said, it's 14-10. Missouri will take that. Should they be ahead? It feels like it. But it's a one score game and they get the ball. You'll take that eight days a week.
