Cannot say when conversations were had or what the extent of them is, but have confirmed that Missouri has spoken with Alex Grinch during the process.
Everybody here should be familiar with him. He is Gary Pinkel's nephew and was on staff here as a GA from 2002-04. After stints at New Hampshire and Wyoming he returned to Mizzou to coach safeties from 2012-14. He's since been a DC at Washington State, Ohio State, Oklahoma and USC. His defenses at the last two stops haven't exactly been great, no question. He's honestly probably been a little hamstrung by working for Lincoln Riley who is fully an offensive coach and puts offenses out there that don't help the defenses much. But you have to acknowledge the numbers for Grinch's defenses haven't been impressive the last few years and he was let go at USC.
Again, I don't know how extensive the talks have been. As we close in on what most expect to be the last couple of days of the search, I don't know if he's still involved or if he's a guy who was looked at but is no longer a candidate. Again, just trying to pass on any news I have been able to confirm because news has been sparse here and nonexistent anywhere else.
I know how this will be received on here. I will say that Grinch is very well respected in the business and obviously is plenty familiar with Mizzou.
