Have we ever.....

Getting Mizzou’d is an art form. You have to have a combination of the following, usually all 3:

- Self inflicted wounds.
-improbable play(s) from the opposition, usually from an improbable player.
-A screw job by the officials/referees as the cherry on top.
There's actually a 4th component: "I've never seen that before."

a few mentions of Arkansas 2020, yes it was a great last minute comeback and walk off FG

but I’d argue the most mind boggling, head scratching play of the game was when Brooks bobbled the INT on the 2PC that game them the lead in the first place. That game was very narrowly in mizzou lore with the others

As a MIzzou fan we all know the touchstones of our sometimes cursed fandom; the 5th down with Colorado, the kicked ball with Nebraska, Tyus Edney and 4 seconds with UCLA, and now this year Auburn and a missed chip shot field goal and dropped fumble costing a touchdown in the same game.

My question is whether we have ever left the field or the court victorious and left another team with the same feelings we had in those games listed above?

I'm tired of a rehashing a frustrating football game and have been thinking of this for awhile.
Great question

Well it seemed like there for awhile losing to Mizzou got a head coach fired. Yeah, we’ve been that team more times than I care to admit. Damn it!

The worst loss I've ever seen is still the "doink" vs South Carolina.

That team was destined to go to a New Years Six game and that cost them.

Actually that was the last year of the BCS…we went to Cotton Bowl which would be a New Years Six but at the time it was just the 4 BCS bowls but I get what you’re saying

1978....Chris Garlich and MU make a goal line stand to beat Joe Montana and Notre Dame

2021....Drink goes for two in OT and beats Florida

1997....Corey Tate cans a jumper and MU upsets #1 Beaks in double OT

There's a bunch more but here's the best

1993....Favored Illinois was up 10 with 2 minutes to play. MU forces not one but 2 OT. At the end ofvthe 2nd OT Illini guard Kiwane Garris could win the game by making one of two FTs....he missed both. MU wins in 3OT

Which prompted one of Norms best quotes

MU came into the game injured and lost players due to fouls which prompted this....

"We were playing our sick and injured..... the women and children were next"

I think the victory over Ohio St in 1976 qualifies. Ohio St led 21 to 14. Mizzou had the ball on the 9 yd line with under a minute. The crowd noise caused clock stoppages and Mizzou score a TD with 16 seconds left. They went for 2 and Pete Woods threw an incomplete pass but Ohio St was called for holding. On the ensuing point try, Woods scored the 2 point conversion on a keeper where he was hit behind the line, broke the tackle and hurdled over a player into the end zone. I'm sure Ohio St felt they were "Mizzou-ed."

Eric Piatkowski rims out a 3 pointer to beat Mizzou and ruin the perfect 14-0. Saves a perfect conference season for our last Conference Title in football or basketball.

Clarence Gilbert vs Iowa. Marcus Denmon 70 footer capping a ridiculous first half at Memphis. Lee Coward twice vs kansas. Zaire Taylor in back to back games vs kansas and Texas. 4 OT at Tennessee one year, Mevis 48 yarder to beat Arkansas on the last play of the game two years ago.

Happens all the time. People just forget about the positives and remember the negatives.
Yeah that would be the equivalent to Tyus Edney but not the kicked ball or 5th down or the best kicker in the country missing one that he had never missed. It’s one thing to get beat by an incredible performance it’s another for freak occurrences to take you down.

A lot of the games being mentioned aren’t great examples, in my opinion

Like Mizzou vs Memphis in the Sweet 16. Sure Denmon hit a half court shot but 3 seed Mizzou just thoroughly whooped Memphis’ butt from start to finish.

And I don’t really remember anything flukish about the A&M 2013 game. I think Josey just did what Josey does.
What the OP is asking about are games where we have been the recipient of an absolute fluke play or call that outright gave us a win like a FG kicker missing a 26 yard FG as time expires or RB fumbling at the 1 when going for the win in OT.

Christian Moody missing both free throws is a great example. That’s a classic Mizzou move right there.
The triple overtime game in the checkerdome in 1993 where Kywane Garris, a 90% free throw shooter, missed 2 free throws in the final second of regulation that would have won the game. Instead we went on to win in 3 overtimes. Go crazy folks! That's what Jack Buck might have said if he was broadcasting that game.

I didn't interpret the OP's post as Mizzou doling out heartbreaking, legitimate losses. I read it more along the lines of, has Mizzou ever "5th downed" another team? Has Mizzou ever won on such an absurdly incorrect call or with an incredible last-second play, ala "THE BAND IS ON THE FIELD".

To me, the 2010 SDSU game that's been mentioned ITT fits that bill, but I hardly doubt SDSU fans look back at their 2010 season and view that game the way Mizzou fans view some of the shocking losses Tigers fans have endured.

But I can't think of Mizzou ever benefiting from a 5th down or kicked ball type of scenario.

That's just how I read the OP.

Ohio St 22-21 in Columbus
ND 3-0 in south bend
Triple OT win in Knoxville with DGB
Armageddon at Arrowhead

we’ve had our share of good endings, but we only remember the bad ones.
