I have been a football fan all my life but was never able to play as my rural school did not offer it. How important is coaching relative to the talent of the players?

Hypothetically if Gary Pinkel coached one of Alabama’s national championship teams would he have also won the natty? What about Larry Smith?
Conversely could Nick Saban have achieved a better 2007 season with the Tigers than did Pinkel? What about last year’s team?
I intend no disrespect just curious about how people see this. I do know that the right coach recruits the right players and that it is hard to separate those two, but for the sake of this exercise please don’t consider recruiting skills or pedigree. I look forward to everyone’s thoughts on this. Thanks!
