Count me as one that was truly excited when Josh Heuple came aboard as Offensive Coordinator, but after the South Carolina game, I have more than a little concern. Coach Heulpel's comment “The structure of their defense was a little bit different than we anticipated. They played a little bit more two-high with a backer out on top of him (Johnson), which is okay."

But the offense never adapted, especially when Crockett went down.

South Carolina played tight man-on-man at the line of scrimmage on our receivers with each safety lined up ten yards deep ... leaving the entire middle of the field open. This alignment pointed to numerous options for the Missouri offense; no bubble screens were available, South Carolina was challenging Missouri to run the ball and seam routes to the tight ends were open as were circle routes out of the backfield.

Missouri ran the ball aggressively until Crockett was injured, no touches for Roundtree, why ... and Missouri seemed to ignore the tight ends, why again?

I thought a coach of Heupel's pedigree would adjust and pick that defensive strategy apart, but Missouri's only response was to run Witter and force passes to the outside, fumbling receivers. A slight change in attack could have helped Drew Lock in attacking the defense.
