We all knew that there wouldn't be consensus on PM regarding the MBB HC selection. But here we are..
Here is a challenge to all PM'ers who have questions about, or flat out hate, this pick. Are you big enough to admit that you were wrong if Gates succeeds as HC? I know, what does "succeeds" mean? I know we will never agree on how to define that term. But, I believe success means the following:
Year 1: Gates brings in a solid, experienced coaching staff, improves recruiting from the jump, shows creativity in the NIL space, and signs of foundation building.
Year 2: Clear team growth/player development, competitive on both ends of the court, and maybe even a surprise visit to the big dance.
Year 3: Continued growth, into the top 25 in multiple ranking platforms (KenPalm, Net, Massey, etc.).
Year 4+: The foundation should be in place and Gates should be building upon it. From here on out, Mizzou should consistently be in the top 3-4 of the SEC and a regular participant in the NCAA tourney. They should always have multiple players on the various All-SEC teams and hopefully one or two getting national recognition. We should consistently hear rumors of other schools poaching Gates.
I know I'm missing some things, but this post is already too long.
Hopefully, this take ages well. If not, then I have no problem posting that I was wrong.
What say you?
