I've never seen anything like this. Two days ago, meteorologists were predicting a Tropical Storm/Cat 1 at worst. In less than 48 hours, Michael has strengthened to a Cat 4 and may even reach Cat 5 before landfall.
This is going to be catastrophic in terms of damage and I fear loss of life. Apparently many of the residents and vacationers decided to ride out the storm since it wasn't predicted to be bad just a few days ago. Once the storm strengthened, it was too late for many to leave.
Anyone familiar with that area of the panhandle knows that PCB, 30A, Destin, etc. are essentially sitting on an inlet barrier island too. Just makes me sick to my stomach for an area that is my home away from home.
