Lets say you could change the outcome of 4 plays.
From game against Mo St.
Play 1 - 3rd and 10 at the 7:21 mark in the 1st quarter. Say we stuff the run and don't allow a 75 yard TD
Play 2 - 3rd and 24 at the 5:32 mark in the 2nd quarter, Say incomplete pass and don't allow 89 yard TD
Box score would be 72-29 Mo St. would only have had 264 yds passing and 64 yards rushing. Not great but not horrible. We would probably be nervous about our secondary which I would agree considering how young we should be.
From Game against S. Carolina
Play 3 - Kick off return at the 12:52 mark and say instead they get the ball and the 25 and still end up scoring like they did on the next offensive series. Taking 7 points off the board and adding 54 Yards of offense for SCe
Play 4 - 3rd and goal 6:35 in the 3rd quarter instead of incomplete to Albert O it is a completion results would be a +4 on the score board.
Game score changes to 24-17 and the 4th down pass incompletion to Jonathan Johnson was for the tie vs garbage points. We would still be upset we lost one we could have won, but we wouldn't be in full melt down.
I guess I put this out there because although I don't think this team has the it factor I was hoping it might have developed, we are 4 plays from still having hope. If these 4 plays changed I don't think people would be saying we will be lucky to win 2 more games. It is that reason I am not giving up on Barry Odom yet or this team. I still think they will pull 6 wins this year which is 2 less then I thought they would do but it will be progress.
I think they beat Purdue next week and lose to Auburn keeping closer then some would anticipate. Then we go to Kentucky and win and then lose to Georgia. We beat Idaho and U Conn and end the year 1 and 3.
While I don't want to predict which game we win in the last 4, I will just say:
Florida looks likes it's offense may be anemic
Tennessee still is unproven in my eyes
Vandy is Vandy so you never know
Arkansas hasn't exactly shown much either
I guess I just feel they can win one of those.
So yes black and gold glasses to still have hope, but 4 break downs on plays can really change outlook and I am just not ready to throw in the towel over 4 plays. I will be at the stadium on Saturday like have been for the last 8 years as a season ticket holder and will still go to my two away games a year to support my tigers. I will remain hopeful till they prove they can't get to 6 wins and then support Sterks decision at the end of the year.
