I think it's one of the following two scenarios:

1) Sterk didn't have or didn't feel like he had authorization to spend what it took to get somebody better than Blake Anderson. Maybe his budget was in the $3 to $4M range. And thus, Blake Anderson was as good as he could do.

2) Sterk, due to ego or stubborness or whatever, simply wanted to hire a guy like Blake Anderson even though he had the funds to hire someone more high profile. This was just his personal preference.

If it's scenario #1, then this is about money. And the way to solve it is to allocate more money to the situation. Up it to somwhere in the $5 to $6M range and we end up with the kind of coach the fans and the Board of Curators want.

If it's scenario #2, this was a wake up call for Sterk, telling him the Board of Curators are not having any of this, he has the authorization to spend the money. Now he has to go out and talk to guys like Kiffin or whoever and go get one of them, and if he doesn't like it he can resign.

I'm struggling to think of another scenario besides these two to explain all of this. I really think it could be either one. The good news is both are fixable.
