He not only runs the risk of dividing the locker room he runs the risk of ruining Lock. If Lock struggles and is replaced, that is a failure on the coaching staff. If Lock doesn't win the East, that to would be considered a fail.
If Mauk struggles and has to be replaced we are in trouble, but it's life in big time college football. Then you bring in the number two guy. You are now in a position most likely that you are losing games so you have to see what else you got.
Mizzou has a chance to get to a third straight SEC CG. I don't think you "go with the kid" in this position.
My only concession is if the staff thinks Lock is their next starter they either need to redshirt him or make him second string. You owe it to Printz and Zanders so they know where they officially stand for this year and beyond. This allows Printz to figure out if he wants to be a Berkstresser type player minus the one opportunity or if he truly needs to take his very talented arm to another team. The same goes for Zanders adding the option to switch positions if he wants. I don't know if he can run a route, catch a pass, or do both well enough to see the field in that capacity. I do know his legs will play and he could be a really good looking college QB for a Georgia Tech, K-State, Oregon, or Auburn type offense.
