I love this staff.
I love this team.
The future is insanely bright for this staff, and for so many of these young Tigers who are just starting to cut their teeth at the D1 level.
Yeah, last night hurt. I care too much about this damn university, and my stomach will remain in knots until about mid-week, knowing just how close this team was to pulling off a really nice upset and sending Mizzou fans home happy. But they didn't, and that's okay. This staff showed that THEY KNOW HOW TO COACH, and these kids showed that THEY CAN PLAY.
A large contingent of the fan base deemed Mizzou's OL a mess before the season even started. Right now, I'd say they've easily been Mizzou's best unit through the first 3 games. And we're not talking about 3 games versus cream puffs. Let's give Elarbee and the big uglies their due credit.
Drew Lock showed us last night WHY he was so highly-rated out of HS. This kid has an NFL arm. He has poise, confidence, loves his teammates, loves his coaches, and will LEAD Mizzou to the next level. Drew made a couple mistakes last night, no doubt, but he'll be the first to own up to those mistakes. His terrific play for a lot of that game allowed Mizzou to have a fighting chance. Drew completed 60% of his passes, accumulated 376 yards through the air, and now has over 800 yards passing and 8 TDs through the air in his last two contests. I don't care that Mizzou played EMU last weekend -- there weren't many people, if any, who forecast that kind of success from the TR SO, this early on. He's going to be a damn star.
Cross and Odom will get this defense where it needs to be. Last night, Mizzou SHUT DOWN one of the best RBs in the SEC, if not THE best, and they were able to dial up a little pressure here and there, and come away with some sacks. I think last night should show you guys that Cross's/Odom's scheme can work, and it will work. There are kinks to be ironed out, sure, but the defense really played well for most of last night's contest -- especially considering they were out there for almost 2/3 of the entire contest.
J'Mon Moore is public enemy number 1 around here, for whatever reason. But the kid is having one hell of a year, including almost 200 yards receiving last night with 2 TDs -- now has 300 yards and 2 TDs against the 2 P5 opponents Mizzou has faced this year. For those of you who struggle with math, that's an average of 150 yards and 1 TD per game against P5 teams. He's staring down a potential monster year.
Finally, let's give Tucker McCann and Corey Fatony some love. Tucker kid nailed an early FG to extend the Tigers' lead to 10, then hit the longer 46 yarder near the end of the 1st half, and Corey blasted 5 punts for an average of 50 yards.
I'm tired of all the mindless bitching here. Let's get behind this team -- coaches and players, alike.
