I want to give a 'shout out' to all writers and especially Gabe. The mechanics of writing, I think most writers all are adept at. But good writing involves a creative aspect and that is a talent but dependent upon being in a good, free state of mind. But what if things are not good on the home front?
There are no "Time-Outs" in journalism.
I can say from my own standpoint, when you have personal or family issues (i.e. a parent not doing well health-wise), it is like a wrecking ball into everything you'd like to be and are normally.
Then, if you are totally ingrained in a sport for a long time, you interview quite a few and make many friends along the way. Then a friend in the sport dies unexpectedly and you are the key staff member who knew them the best. You then are expected to write their obit bio in a timely fashion or be a key interviewee without proper time to grieve.
Journalism, it is not all that's its crack up to be.
My point here, appreciate Gabe does a great job.
