The foundation of this is that sports are entertainment and when they lose their value in that there are too many other options in 2020 then to stick with a lousy boring team.
My opinion is that this is a bit of a “video game” problem. People are used to high scoring video games where defense is really second (eg madden etc). This is far more entertaining to play and there is carry over to watching games. Barry has an offense that was maddening to watch in design, execution and play calling. This ultimately got him fired despite having a pretty good defense.
Cuonzo should take note. No one is tuning in to sportscenter to watch “defensive highlights”. “Gritty team”. They want to watch high scoring games that are enjoyable- even in a loss there is some joy in discussing deep 3s, dunks, some motion offense....etc. lack of creativity is killing desire to even watch this team
