I am not a coach, son of a coach, father of a coach; although I know many coaches. Having said that, I played a little (very little, and poorly) football way back in the dark ages of the 60s, If a coach told you to do something you did it. If a coach told you not to do something you did not do it. If you CHOSE to disobey - as opposed to being forced by the opposition to disobey - you were quickly and unapologetically brought to the sidelines where you could gather your thoughts and reflect on your sins. I remember the best player being pulled as well as the guys (me) who often looked out of the earhole of the helmet. Punishment was swift, and, as I recall had a dramatic impact most of the time.
If Mr. Mauk was the only choice we had I could see, though not necessarily agree, with tolerating his continued stupidity on broken plays. Don't get me wrong, I think Maty is a good QB but he continues to do the same stupid plays under fire. We have the second coming of Paul Hornung on the sidelines, why not use him to reinforce educational opportunities for the starter?
Or is this just not done in this day and age because we don't want to break his delicate psyche and turn him into a mass murderer (a guy who murders people during mass) or worse - a chickenhawk.
Young coaches and players let me know please.
