MINNESOTA NATIONAL GUARD PATROL INJURED IN DRIVE-BY SHOOTING HOURS AFTER MAXINE WATERS TOLD PROTESTERS TO “MAKE SURE THEY KNOW WE MEAN BUSINESS”
by Kevin Ryan
The Minnesota National Guard said a drive-by shooting targeted its members in north Minneapolis early this morning.
At about 4:19 a.m., shots were fired from a white SUV at Minnesota National Guard who were providing neighborhood security. Two guard members were injured, with one taken to the hospital with cuts from shattered glass.
The shooting happened in north Minneapolis, about 5 miles from Brooklyn Center. Several hours earlier, Rep. Maxine Waters, (D-CA) held a rally in Brooklyn Center and told protesters “to get more confrontational” in the wake of the Derek Chauvin trial.
“We’ve got to stay on the street and we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business,” she said when asked what protesters should do moving forward.
Republicans were not happy with what they saw as provocation.
"Why is a sitting member of Congress encouraging protesters to get 'confrontational?'" Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) wrote on Twitter.
Waters has a history of provoking confrontation. In 2018, she called for her supporters to create crowds when they see Trump officials and tell them they’re not welcome in public.
“Let's make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd,” Waters said. “And you push back on them. And you tell them they're not welcome anymore, anywhere.”
Waters said she plans to stay in Minnesota until closing arguments in the Chauvin trial.
