Is it this simple?

Let me get this straight, Sterk fires Odom. Sterk has a press conference that essentially says he is going to hire a new coach that is better than Odom which will bring excitement and momentum to the program. The BOC takes Sterk at his word and believes Sterk is going to bring them a coach with at least the following credentials:

1. Better than 21-17 record at P5 school the last 3 years

2. Better record than 25-25 in last 4 years - Here are the schools that meet this profile:
Alabama, Clemson, Ohio St, Oklahoma, Washington, Wisconsin, Penn St, Georgia, Washington St, Michigan, LSU, Stanford, Oklahoma St, Notre Dame, USC, Miami, West Virginia, Auburn, Northwestern, Iowa, NC St, Virginia Tech, A&M, Kentucky, TCU, Mississippi St, Kansas St, Florida State, South Carolina, Texas, Wake Forest, Minnesota, Boston College, Colorado, Oregon, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Arizona State and Iowa State. (I don't see a lot of candidates here).

3. Better Record than Odom against top 50 programs

4. Better Record than Odom against ranked opponents

5. Limited or no history of losing when a 20+ point favorite

If that is the BOC expectations, I understand why they rejected Anderson, Holtz and Monken as none of these guys meet that criteria.

The problem is that if the BOC is going to hold Sterk to this type of profile, Sterk is not going to be able to meet his own parameters and therefore is not going to satisfy the BOC. Something has to give or does the BOC look at the pile of garbage that is the basketball program and go ahead and relieve Sterk as AD.

Either way, recruitng this year is going to take a significant hit as our top commts will not take the chance of waiting around. The other problem is that no matter who is hired they will have a cloud of "is he really the best guy" around him which will not translate well to the fan base, donors or future recruits.

Do Sundvold and Pinkel have enough clout to find out who the BOC would be happy with and go stealth to back channel behind Sterk's back? Help hire the coach with the understanding that Sterk will be fired and some combination of Sundvold and Pinkel hold the AD together until they find someone new? Problem there is the new AD will not pick the new football coach and is looking at having to fire an underachieving basketball coach that has a bloated contract.

I would think a more reputable coach would be comfortable with Pinkel being involved in the AD as it seemed as though he is well respected in the world of college football.

There is no way to negotiate with any top flight candidate for Sterk or anyone else because the other side knows that they can say no to whatever offer comes their way until they receive the "it's too good to be true offer". I have to believe that whoever gets hired will get the highest compesation package , longest term and largerst buyout than any other contract previously offered by Mizzou. If they flop, this will set football back for 10 years.

I would have thought Sterk would have met with the BOC to get everyone one the same page as to what is and isn't accetable in a new coach and go execute as time is critical for recruiting. Unfortunately, this just looks like horribly operated organization which is on par with the leadership historically at our university. A bunch of people who have the degrees that say that they are smart and have no comprehension of the real world. The only way this university is going to change is to bring in common sense leadership that is outside of the academic community. Those that live in the academia bublle only see the world through their eyes and do not understand that the real world is an imperfect place where competition dictates that everyone scratch, claw and fight for success.
