If they said here is more money right away it doesn’t make sense for anyone to say anything. If they say no and offer him nothing maybe he leaks it hoping people will say well they only have X amount to spend we need to pay more. Possibly looking for booster intervention.
It is a risky move, but maybe it brings in donations or gets the board to free up some cash. I have talked to him before and he did not come across as a stupid man.
