I grew up 19 mile from Columbia and have been a Tiger fan since the late 60's...but I am simply giddy about how our fortunes have seemingly completely turned around in the last 5-6 months.
I am an admitted "glass-half-full" guy...but the last few years have been really tough on us all.
I always felt that over time things could and would eventually turn around...but even a black & gold glasses guy like me could have never imagined things turning around so quickly.
I give AD Sterk a lot of credit...but also other special people at Mizzou like Robin Pingeton, Steve Bieser, Barry Odom, AJ Ofodile, and several other really good people we have on staff.
Even though the last two years have been brutal and painful for the the two revenue sports...we ARE coming off our best finish ever in the Director's Cup standings...but we all know that Football and Men's Basketball drives the bus.
Our great new leadership team, and an influx of new young talent mixed with visionary plans for the future have me wearing my black and gold more proudly than ever.
There are so many good things going on behind the scenes in football...I am certain the results of the hard work will start showing on the field this Fall. As we win...people are going to jump back on board quickly.
Attending the Alumni Basketball game and seeing and hearing thoughts from our great former Tigers reminded me just how special this place is and what an important impact and love it has generated for so many.
Basketball excitement is off the charts right now...and although Michael Porter will almost surely only play for us one year...I can see his impact lasting for years to come.
But the real hero here is the quiet, behind the scenes, out-of-the-spotlight leader...Jim Sterk.
Sure...there may be some luck and good timing with getting the Porter's to Columbia...but his handling of the BB hire showed me the blue print for how it should be done.
And his exciting plans and changes for everything from Ticket Sales to facilities, from inproving Game Day experiences to PR marketing...I have never felt more confident and happy about the general direction in which our future is headed.
I don't go to mutigers.com all that often but there is lots of good stuff there to read on a slow Sunday this last weekend before football and things get really cranked up.
If you can't feel good and get excited reading this stuff...then I am afraid there is no hope for you.
Read and enjoy...and GO TIGERS!
