Just an fyi for some in STL that might know of him. He played baseball at CBC, wasn't drafted and went to Missouri State. He was Conference Frosh of Year and tore it up for a few years. In 2017, my White Sox took him #11 overall in the first round of the MLB draft.
The guy has had rough luck. He played about 50 games in A ball that year. Before '18 got started, he tore his achilles. He missed '18, '19 and '20 totally with two achilles surgeries, a badly bruised heel and covid. He played 42 games in AAA ball this year before getting called up today. He was raking at Charlotte. He made his first start at 3B for an injured Moncada and went 2-4 with a double tonight.
Saying they may move him to 2B next week to replace Madrigal, who is out for the year. He is a natural 3B, so I am curious if it will work, but they want his bat in the lineup right now.
Story during the broadcast tonight...
Jake was in Busch Stadium as a high schooler in 2011 for game 6 of the WS when Freese walked it off. Lynn's rookie year and LaRussa's last go around. Tonight, he was playing 3B as Lance Lynn got the win on the mound and LaRussa was in the dugout.
His family got in the car and drove all day to Detroit to watch tonight.
Sorry, had to share. Since he's a Missouri kid, I have always been pulling for him - only to watch bad luck follow him around. Was really excited to watch his debut tonight for the 1st place White Sox!!
