Joplin lost a player, Kalin Roberts-Day, at practice Wednesday due to an asthma attack. Their game against Webb City was moved to Saturday to allow the team to mourn. The surrounding communities at their games on Friday all played tribute to #63. “Do It for 63” was the slogan all over SWMO and SEKS. It was remarkable and emotional to see the support.
Saturday’s game at Webb City was no less remarkable and emotional. KRD’s twin brother led the team onto the field carrying the Eagle banner. The Robert-Day family also led the team wearing T-shirt’s to honor Kalin.
Both teams, staff and cheerleaders met on the field for prayer. The team captains, including Kalin’s brother, held the #63 jersey at midfield for the coin toss.
Joplin beat Webb City for the first time since 1990 ( they hadn’t played every year ) by the score of 38-25. 38+25=63. The game was played on 9-7. 9x7=63.
