Talked to Stec for some perspective on Barry Odom, but also wanted to pass along some stuff from him about his start at MSU
"It’s everything I hoped it would be and everything I didn’t realize it would be. Nobody knows what Gary Pinkel’s thinking at the end of the day cause he has to think for 130 people. Position coaches just have to think about 10 or 12 or 20, coordinators just think about their 50, Gary’s got to think for all of them."
"It's been overwhelming at times. Kids are working their asses off. Can’t be any prouder. Don’t know if it’s good or bad, but my personality, I am who I am. Like Popeye. The kids are figuring out who I am and truth be told, a couple of people called former players at Mizzou, tried to get the low down. I Iove these kids just like I love the kids at Mizzou."
On taking the media tour the last few weeks (we joked about how he's all media friendly and now a great Twitter follow): "See, it’s not that I couldn’t, it’s that I didn’t want to. You get thrust into roles sometimes you have to do what you don’t want to do."
On starting the season: "I can’t wait for the first game, wish we had about three more months. But the good Lord gave me 13 and a half more days."
On the reception from fans: "It’s awesome. I think a lot of the awesomeness is being blessed to be at Mizzou with Gary and the boys for 14 years. I came in with a name. A Mizzou name, not a Stec name cause they probably didn’t know who I was. I think the people in Springfield are just so awesome. They're so friendly and blue collar. It's been great."
