To the Kazmir haters involved in yesterday's discussion - no one said he was as good as Cueto or an All Star - but he's a tough finesse pitcher and as I said yesterday that was a nice pick-up for only a 19th and 21st rated prospect. An ERA of 2.38 coming into this game and a ERA of 1.35 since June 1st. Even the Royals have had off and on interest in this guy for the past 5 or 6 years. Not a number 1 starter but a solid middle of the rotation guy that knows how to pitch. Keep hating haters - the guys a pretty decent pitcher and a nice pickup for the last couple of months of the season.
I'm sure the Royals and half a dozen other teams will be at Cueto's start tomorrow in Cincinnati. He's had 2 bad games in a row - for Royals fans let's hope he's healthy and pitches well. According to Andy McCoullough (Royals beat writer) they are not interested in parting with any of their top minor league pitching prospects. Exactly what I said yesterday and exactly what Shawn Reid has said on this board for the past month. We all want the Royals to win - let's hope the can swing a deal for a healthy Cueto or some other top rated pitcher - maybe Gallardo of Texas.
PS - the Royals had better figure out how to hit left handlers with good control and a good curve/slider. In the past few weeks, Montgomery (a former Royal), John Danks and now Kazmir have absolutely shut this team down. Unfortunately this issue against left handers is the Royals greatest weakness and has been an issue all year.
