Anderson meeting with the media at 2:30. I will pass on anything of note here
Team has worked a lot on individual skill work, fundamentals. This is the first week they can have the whole team on the floor (for 2 hours for the whole week).
"new guys have been a breath of fresh air...returning guys have matured."
Worked a lot on offense, some stuff defensively.
On Russell Woods, definitely came in behind, "wasn't working out the way we were working out" but has been impressive and wants to learn.
Phillips is energetic, can be a leader but will have to earn it.
On Woods "we need him to contribute." Says there will be days they may play four guards or only one big guy. Allen, Gant, Puryear will play some on the wing.
On losing Teki: says Namon and Walton will have to score, Van Leer has to shoot well, Payne is a guy that can help at both guard spots. Says toward end of last year Teki was only scoring six points a game.
On Clark: "Wes has been great." Says his elbow is fine
"The guys that stayed have a desire to improve." Says he doesn't talk much about it. "You hope you get a do over but you don't."
Says "we've strengthened ourselves as a team overall."
Says again last year's team didn't have good chemistry. "That's no breaking news."
Last year's team was constructed late. Learned in a power conference trying to recruit guys in June that's hard.
On new coaches in the league "SEC has certainly made a statement and our league has hired some great coaches but I am more kind of focused on us...I'm just worried about practice today."
Says Shields and Tate have been very good. Shields brought "that level of experience that our staff needs." Said his presence has made Anderson's life easier and allowed him to focus more on basketball
