Probably the main thing we can do is just pray."

On to basketball
Terrence Phillips missed practice with patella tendonitis, but no serious injuries so far. Phillips should be back today.
Continues to be excited about the freshman class and the way they're working. Competitive practices. "The six new guys have continued to progress at a good pace."
Said they've made some changes at both ends of the floor.
"So far I've been very pleased with the effort and probably getting near that point to where we need to play a game in another week or two, but we don't have one until November so we'll be doing some scrimmages."
On recruiting: Can't talk about it other than been really pleased with the reception they've gotten on the recruiting trail, thinks staff has "done a good job not only on this year but also down the line on 2017s and 2018s." "I think maybe we're getting to the point to where we're getting caught up with younger players as well as the current ones."
On the returning players: "Experience is so important. You watch last year's freshmen who are now sophomores or Wes or Ryan, their experience is going to be really important to this team. I can see their improvement. They've improved, there's no question about that but we have to keep plugging away."
Says all six returning guys "have all made a lot of improvements since last year. Part of that is what we've done and part of that is what they've done on their own."
Says Gant has gotten stronger and improved his shooting and ball handling. "I think he's become a more complete basketball player and hopefully, I know as of right now, he's got some confidence."
Cant still needs to get stronger, Anderson says he's up to 205-210, but has a hard time adding weight. "He's still going to be, if he has to guard that big post guy, that still is gonna be tough, but I do think he's getting there."
Says it's more fun to go to practice this year. "The guys who were here last year kind of understand they don't want to go through what they went through last year."
Asked him about expectations for Gant's freshman season and if they were fair. Said he's not big on recruiting rankings, but "his year was so fragmented...I thought he made a lot of great strides during the year. He had some really good performances, but he's like all of them. He's a freshman. I think you have a lot of ups and downs."
"Consistency is going to be huge with this team."
Points out 11 of 15 players, including walk-ons, are freshmen and sophomores.
Anderson says Mizzou has more options, but still trying to figure out who should be primary point guard. Mentions Phillips, Isabell, Clark and Payne as possibilities.
On the freshmen: "It would be hard to rank who's done the best, but Kevin Puryear has come in and really done well." Said he adds strength, which Missouri really needs.
"Having some positive things happen earlier would be great." Says the dynamics of the team are much different. "I think they have a little bit better comfort zone with what we want, what we expect." Said coaches and players know each other better than a year ago.
"The greatest thing that's happened to me in the last few months is hiring Steve Shields." Says he's taken a lot of things off Anderson's plate and allowed him to start on basketball, or other things that are more important than some of the things he was trying to do last year like "speaking to everybody in the world"
Says Tate has done a great job and really relates well to the players.
