I am not a Kim Anderson fan, but I am going to give him a little love. Everyone on this site uses his tenure as the ultimate benchmark of failure. We must remember that he was handed the keys to a Chevy Chevette with four flat tires, a broken windshield, a blown head gasket, and no starter. When he arrived the program was under NCAA investigation (which he was never told) and subsequently was banned from postseason play and had scholarships taken away. From what I understand the "athletes" he inherited would show up for practice stoned, high, or under the influence (correct me if I'm wrong). He was forced to kick those druggies off the team and during his first year had 6 maybe 7 scholarship players on the bench. He took it upon himself to clean house and create a program of integrity where the players were there to play basketball, follow the rules, and obey the law. Did he accomplish this? I think. Did he win? NO. Could anyone have one within 3 years with what he was handed? I doubt it. Should he have been fired? YES. But he pulled the program from the deepest of holes. He restored order and handed Cuonzo the keys to a used Chevy SUV that Cuonzo could at least start, put it in drive, and move forward.
