I attended the "Come Home" tour event held in Jefferson City last night. Great event and I came away impressed with Desiree Reed-Francois, the Athletic Department staff, and the coaches in attendance. The A D is extremely personable and out-going. Coach Gates is one of the most well-spoken coaches I have heard speak. Coach Gates and Coach Smithpeter left immediately after Coach Gates' remarks to have dinner with a transfer portal recruit who was on a visit (we all know who that recruit is).
Had an opportunity to visit with the guy who is the CEO of the M U NIL Collective. Very interesting young man and very willing to try to answer my questions. I am terrible with names and do not remember his name. He did share that the M U NIL Collective is doing well and is very competitive with other SEC schools. I asked him what amount is needed for M U to be competitive in the NIL world and he said the goal is $10-$12 million a year.
Wanted to specifically mention new offensive coordinator Kirby Moore. Had a chance to visit with him essentially one-on-one for about 15 minutes after the event. Very impressive and very personable young man. I must be old because he sure does look young. Had the opportunity to suggest that a tight-end might prove useful in an offense and that if I never saw another behind the line of scrimmage pass or a slow-developing jet sweep it would be too soon. He specifically mentioned trying to get acclimated to the personnel he has. We talked some about the difficulty in dealing with NIL, the transfer portal, and recruiting. We also talked briefly about the advantage of having a brother who is an NFL offensive coordinator. Again, I found him to be extremely engaging and a very down-to-earth young man to visit with. I would think he would be a hit in talking to parents in home visits when recruiting!
