Lumber yard told me that they are offering $5K bonus to truck drivers (who qualify) to drive for them.
Uber Eats had an ad of $250 Bonus if you complete your first 10 deliveries for them.
One of the Fast Food chains here is offering $16/hr starting for part time labor, plus $50 Bonus upon completion of first shift.
Some restaurants are cutting hours due to lack of labor. Many are dropping lunch all together.
CNBC had a segment that they expect gas shortage problems this summer as there arent' enough qualified truck drivers to deliver gasoline to stations. Good luck to you rurals out there.
What you are going to see is significantly more supply destruction and small business liquidity issues.
A large corporation can absorb these inflation spikes. A small business cannot. A small business could if they could get more access to lending, but banks aren't really lending right now.
I am trying to go back and read more on Weimar Republic about the years 1919-1921. I remember the labor supply destruction as well. One thing I recall reading about is how those in your upper middle class and professional jobs were hit with all of a sudden they too couldn't find/afford bread. The inflation affected bottom up.
Another update on slowdown in ISM:
