Lots to unpack here with the mental illness in play. Primarily, though, the victim took his eyes off the guy and stopped paying attention even though he pointed out the axe after noticing it earlier. How could he not have been on high alert???
Secondly, don't ever let a human threat get that close to you (striking distance), even if unarmed.
Third, if the victim got snuck up on, which he didn't, you immediately have to grab that axe and go all-in before the threat even remotely takes action. There's no time to wait to determine intent. Tranny with an axe is all the "intent" determination you fucking need.
Lastly, regarding victim #2, get the fuck out of there after the first strike on victim #1. What are you staring at?? Just run, unless greater armed, of course.
These two victims didn't deserve what happened to them, but they both left themselves vulnerable and that's why they almost died.
