This article is from Saturday down South, written in April 2015 and proclaims Mauk to be the most talented QB in the SEC. This is why IMO people (me included) get so frustrated when the offense stalls. Maty came with huge hype. With huge hype came huge expectations. With huge expectations can come big let downs. Our offense under Mauk was supposed to thrive. Hopefully the Kentucky game is when his reign of terror against SEC foes takes off. http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/mi...ri-qb-maty-mauk-championship-level-skill-set/
I remember Pinkel coached former NFL QB Mark Brunell at Washington. I feel like when MM struggled last season, Pinkel would compare both the player and the struggles to those of Brunell. Oddly enough, Brunell was drafted in the fifth round with eerily similar stats to Maty Mauk in completion percentage. Maty has way more yards and TD's. Check out stats below:
Mark Brunell Att Comp pct yds td int QBR
Fr. 12 6 50.0 57 0 2 56.6
So. 253 118 46.6 1732 14 8 116.1
Jr 44 26 59.1 333 4 2 143.6
Sr. 189 109 57.7 1301 5 4 120.0
TOTAL 498 259 52.0 3423 23 16 118.6
Now the game changed with the evolution of the spread and multiple receiver passing attacks but I found the numbers interesting nonetheless.
