Missed Opportunity

That’s what I’m most sick about. The stadium yesterday had a better energy, noise level, and feel about it than any other game this year. And with the defense making hard-nosed stops at key times, it just felt like old school MU football a little bit and that maybe this was the game, and the win, that could turn the fan base back on.

Instead, this.

I woke up with a sore throat today from yelling in support of my beloved Tigers. My feet and legs are sore from waking to and from downtown and from jumping up and down during the game. And I woke up cranky and surly, needed extra coffee and also some physical space away from my family as I struggle to rebound a little. But, as a fan, rooting hard for your team is painful sometimes - it’s just part of experience. And as a lifelong Mizzou fan I’ve gone thru the lows, and a lot of highs, during the last 50+ years.

For me, though, it’s not about the loss as much as the missed opportunity a win last night could have brought our fans, and our program. And, as a guy who likes and respects Barry and who will continue supporting him, I feel horrible for him personally because he also absolutely knows how close he was to turning the corner.
He says this loss will haunt him the rest of his life but, in the spirit of Halloween, I’m hoping the rest of the season is the treat and last night’s missed opportunity is the last trick for a long time! MIZ
