Mizzou held to a higher standard

The Brendan Scales thread got me thinking, "Should Mizzou be held to a higher standard than other schools when it comes to in state recruits?"

The fact of the matter is that Mizzou needs the kids much more than they need Mizzou. If the recruits are good enough that they're receiving offers from more than a handful of high level P-5 schools, then there's no excuse for Mizzou to ever be out efforted. The excuse that "they may not fit the sheme" is just that, an excuse. Especially when the position in question hasn't produced much in the past 3-4 seasons.

We've seen it happen a lot over the past few years, especially on the east side of the state, where Mizzou is maybe only batting .500 on getting the true "studs" from the area. And every time they leave the excuse is thrown out, "well if they really bled black and gold that would've been here". News flash, not every recruit from Missouri is going to grow up a Mizzou fan. A lot won't even grow up a fan of college football. The same could be said for 95% of the out of state guys the coaches get. You have to sell them your pitch and build a relationship. And the fact that Mizzou has a closer proximity to them, means that the relationship should be stronger than any other school. I'm not saying it has to happen for every guy that comes out of the state. But there's maybe 8-9 SEC caliber players that come out each year. Not making them feel like family is inexcusable.

As an analogy: You grow up down the street from a pretty girl, but never really know her all that well. Then as you become a teenager she starts to flirt with you a little, saying that one day she might be into you, but you might need to mature and change a little first. Sooner or later you start having other pretty girls showing interest in you and wanting to go on dates. Finally ol' girl comes around and says she'll give you a chance. Now you're not sure whether this is because she finally saw what she wanted to see in you, or because she got jealous of all the other girls giving you attention, and wanted to make sure that she didn't miss out. While it's nice, it would've been a lot better if the girl from down the street and could've seen you every/any day would've figured out whether you had what she wanted a lot sooner. Not too long after, another girl comes along, prettier than your neighbor, and from the rich neighborhood across town. She starts saying she's into you and telling you what you want to hear.

What are you going to do? Go with the richer, better looking girl, who can buy you things and make you feel good about yourself? Or go with the girl down the street who couldn't make her mind up about you?

That's pretty much a no brainer.
