I watched the first part of last years game and a few observations. Our offense moved the ball fairly well to start the game. Hall was open deep several times and DL had some over throws. Later in the game DL was on target and Hall had some long TD catches. Running game was effective early on.

Our defense was another story. Georgia had several big pass plays and a long TD run on a reverse. We lined up wrong so much it was embarrassing. On the reverse we had 10 players lined up between the hash marks and Georgia did as well. The DE lined up outside immediately crashed down and the reverse was wide open with 1 block from the fullback. Hardman who is a track guy and back again this year made 1 defender miss and he was gone, The pass play they had receivers double stacked to the right and we had a safety 20 yards down field trying to cover 1 of the receivers. Really poor defense alignment.

I would rather see us line up man to man with cover 1 and get beat than the mess we had. I hope we are more aggressive Saturday. Jim Chaney is a good OC for Georgia and he has to be licking his chops at our defensive disfuntion.

The pass defense rules in college let you mug a receiver until the ball is in air. Worst case a holding call so 5 yards and a first down. We don’t even attempt to be aggressive. We play scared in the defensive secondary.
