UGH. To be honest, I didn't get to see much of the Chiefs game, instead, I was coaching a soccer team to a 10-0 loss, so I'm not sure which was worse to watch. The Chief's schedule is brutal and they need to get healthy fast. Find some way to conjure a win at Denver and everything is fine.
1. Syria - I don't like the US abandoning the Kurdish allies. I have stated that on here before. The Kurds are a great ally that the US doesn't really deserve. The chess moves going on for this god for saken land is just crazy. First off, The area in dispute is Northern Syria and Iraq which borders southern Turkey. So let's talk moves here. The U.S. has somewhere between 1000-2000 troops in this area. Could be more, it's hard to tell. It is my understanding that these troops were there to manage, train, and operate the Kurdish and support forces against Rebels, ISIS, Syrian Government, etc. Turkey hates the Kurds. WIki page on Turkey Kurd conflict. I'm no genius by any means, but it would seem that having the Kurds set up their country (which they want) in between Syria (who they just fought against) and Turkey (whom they hate) is not a good way to "maintain peace." So as I have characterized Trump in the past as one who hates war, he did what I thought he would do and pull out the troops there. I knew republicans would hate him for it, the military peeps do. I don't know why the liberals are pissed, they hate foreign wars and US occupations, so I thought. So Erdogan invades northern Syria to take over. BTW, is Syrian president Assad, where is he on this? Cool, these two other countries just decided the northern section of my country? So the Kurds are left to slaughter, they can defeat rebels, but they cannot withstand the Turkish military. Meanwhile, the EU is like, WTF, you can't do this USA. US asks EU for help, EU says, no. US asks EU to take prisoners, EU says no. US asks EU to kick in cash, EU says no. So Trump basically gives them the middle finger and turns over to Turkey. Kurds get no help, so they ask Assad to help them fight back Turkey. So you have Turkey (friends with Russia?) and you have Assad (friends with Russia?) now fighting each other? Now Erdogan has a very unique chess play here, he threatens the EU by saying, if you do anything, I am going to release 3.6 million refugees into your land. EU countries are like, sh!t, and hold back critique. My conclusion, the EU is a bunch of vags that complains about the US causing war everywhere, but the EU will never step the hell up to take care of anything or lead at all. Turkey, Russia, and China don't play by the same rules we do. We can hold tough, but we can't have anyone falling out of line. The problem is that there are always members of EU falling out of line. I don't know who is the Chess master on this conflict, is it Erdogan or Putin? I would say Putin, but putting two of your limited allies against each other isn't a smart move. SO I am going to lean Erdogan.
2. China Trade deal or no trade deal. I expected to hear rumblings of some major progress. We are now at the time where a deal would start to benefit 2020 campaigns. I said when this started that the deal wouldn't be made until late fall 2019 or March 2020. Trump needs market bump going into election. If deal was accomplished too soon, the bump would be forgotten. So here we are. I sometimes wonder if a deal could have been done this past spring, but the admin wanted to delay until closer to the election. I hate that this is how American politics operate, but it is totally how american politics operate. There was a major reason why Obama wanted to subsidize Obamacare until after the 2014 election. Same reason on the Debt Ceiling. It's just what our system does.
3. Ukraine update: It seems that Trump asked Ukrainian Prez to look into why Biden denied money until prosecutor was fired. Dems pounced (see what i did there?). Is it presidential? NO. Did Trump just eliminate the person who was most likely to defeat him in 2020 election? Yes, he did. Did Dems and Media help Trump eliminate Biden? Yep. What I find interesting is that progressive Dems have been launching at Biden for months. They were making progress in hurting him, but couldn't topple him. Now they have. There is a rumor that ABCNews is doing a Hunter Biden story tomorrow leading up to Dem Debate. Hmm, great timing for everyone not named Biden. It will be interesting if one of the debate moderators asks if children of VPs can work for Foreign Gas Company Boards. So Trump put this in motion and got what he wanted. Progressive Dems get what they want. Trump kind of gets what he wants. Now we have this impeachment investigation. Dems are trying to move it quickly, but we haven't seen a smoking gun. When I was in law school Trial (Advocacy class, I think the one where you did the dog bite trial) with Professor Greg Scott (Best Law School Prof I ever had, sorry Lambert), Scott said that you win at trial by performing a death of 1000 cuts, not a smoking gun. Dems need those 1000 cuts, but they need them to hit in succession, not delay, like 3 cuts per day. The point is that people become exhausted defending the claims and run out of steam. I just don't see Dems pulling this off. Trump does have 1000 cuts potential, but Dems add in suspect cuts and that's where they lose the 50 or so cuts they inflicted with one fake one.
4. NBA, China, Nike, Disney, South Park. By controlling access to Chinese market, China is now controlling decisions by US companies and those actions are not limited to conduct in China, but expanding to even the USA. Houston GM tweets support for Hong Kong protesters. NBA responds, apologizes, too late, China starts changing stuff in China. Nike pulls Houston Rocket's stuff. BTW, South Park couldn't have better timed their episode Band in China with the NBA and Disney Marvel on the flight with Randy Marsh to China. My opinion on the matter is that I don't really care if NBA is China's b!tch in China, but I don't like the elimination of protest signs in the US. NBA knows that their future is China, not the US. US ratings on the NBA are declining. 5 years in a row, they have gone down. Lowest ratings since 2009. SO NBA knows that the growth in revenue isn't coming from the US. Disney on the other hand pisses me off, because Iger made is a point to state how important it was for Disney to be a beacon of wokeness. Meanwhile, he was stifling stuff to appease China. I get it, Disney sees huge economic potential through China. Parks, movies, product sales, all huge in China. But Iger's public position doesn't jive with his work in China. IN the end, the conclusion is what I have said for many years, 99.99% of people are selfish, they vote selfish, they project selfless, but really, they are just hypocrites. BUT, Matt and Trey from South Park talk about how they want to make money and they like what they do. I wouldn't say they are selfless, but if I wanted to hang out with people, I would choose those two over many others.
5. POTUS 2020 update: In all the recent national polls (with the exception of FoxNews), Warren either leads or is tied with Biden. FoxNews did their Dem candidate v. Trump and it had Biden and Warren up by 10 points. It's no shock that Trump has had a couple bad weeks. This should be an interesting debate tomorrow night. Do the candidates go after Warren? What does Bernie do? Does any of those outside of the top tier rise? Steve Bannon was interviewed, I can't remember what channel. I don't want foxnews, CNN, or MSNBC, so not sure I recall, but he stated that he expected a new centralist candidate to come forward for Dems, because centralist Dems don't want Warren. He thought maybe Bloomberg, or even HRC. This would be interesting, because even though Biden has fallen, Warren is still only at 26%. I think we all remember the hope that Biden would enter 2016 campaign, but he didn't. Now this shows that Dems aren't necessarily happy with one of their candidates, but that's not a bad thing. It only ends up being really bad if African American support for Biden doesn't transfer to another candidate when he drops out.
6. On a personal thought, I liked the ballzy move of Warren buying ads on Facebook saying Zuckerberg endorsed Trump. I don't think the attack ads on Biden were not that false. They made claims that weren't substantiated, but weren't exactly false either. It is hard to prove a negative, I get that. But if we are going to eliminate ads for hyperbole (which I am all for), then we would have no political ads.
7. I spoke with a pediatrician this past week about child development. She raised major concerns about anxiety in children, clamoring for security and reduced ability to make decisions in the youth she sees. She said it is getting really bad where kids are not developing independence. They need to have someone to tell them what to do. I followed up with a couple high school teachers and college teachers and they confirmed that in the past 10 years, it has gotten really bad. I am curious to hear from members on here if you are seeing this. I told one teacher that I am worried that these kids would embrace being controlled if that meant they didn't have to make tough decisions and she agreed. They want their hand held.
