1. A vacation from reality. I took the family to an airbnb north of Broken Bow Lake. It was a private little 2 bedroom cabin on a creek with some rapids. It was amazing to forget about issues for a couple days.
Went hiking, played in the creek. Enjoyed the experience immensely. It was nice to get away. I highly recommend it if you can. Take your stimulus check, rent a place off the beaten path that is remote and quiet so you can social distance and enjoy some nature with the fam.
2. Back to reality, what is going on in the world. There were a few studies that showed infection rate is much higher than suspected. I look at it this way. A vaccine would take at least 1 more year to be approved, probably 18 months to be widely distributed. Are we going to live in this social distance, online school, no gathering hell for 18 more months? We could take the approach of trying to shut everything down tight for two months, track and trace, etc and hope that this goes away, but that only works if every other country does that. They will not. So do we do this dance for the next 18 months? There is no way America can survive if we do. You are going to see stuff get real crazy soon if the meat production plants stay closed. Poor are going to suffer greatly. I expect meat prices to go nuts. Lefties will want govt to regulate meat prices. As a result, you will create a black market for meat. Interestingly, this is similar to how Venezuela spun out of control Prices for regular goods went to black market conditions and no one who was not rich could get food. We need to reopen. We need to have people who are most at risk of severe cases, have them stay at home. That approach would reduce the timeline from 18 months down to a couple months, 3 months at most. Also, it is better to do this in the summer, when transmission is naturally slower, thus not over whelming the health care system. In the near term, build up hospital resources and staff to prepare in case there is an onslaught. In terms of infringing on someone's rights, I don't think it is right for me to tell you that you have to go out. I don't think it is right for you to tell me that I have to stay home. People will die as a result of these shut downs. Right now, we have a demand shock. Soon, we will have a supply shock of basic items.
3. The NFL draft. This will be one of the most interesting drafts in history. Analysis will be something to watch. I think the Shut downs really hurt Albert O. I think teams would have liked him more if he had more in person workouts. But without the in person workouts, all they had was the tape and the tape was not great at times. As a result, he fell. Additionally, this draft was STACKED with WR talent. This is the best draft in WR talent in history. However, WR positions generally take a year to learn the systems and plays. A 1000 yard receiving season for a rookie is not that common. It happens with really great WRs, but it is not common. Due to the virtual workouts and the closed system, I could see a lag from that position. Same thing for defensive scheme positions. You know what position generally dominates from rookies on day 1? Runningback. That's why I actually love that the Chiefs resigned Watkins and drafted an RB who can run, receive, and block. Additionally, he is the cheapest RB who is locked up 5 years. This is a draft that I really look forward to analyzing as we go into history. How about that AFC West? Stacked with WR speed, but outside of Mahomes, not a lot of QB. I know I am hard on Drew Lock, but I just don't see him as a NFL starter. I had said that I thought him better than Gabbert, but I still don't see him as a NFL starter long term. He will have every possibility to showcase that arm though. Jerry Jeudy has some wheels. Albert O has wheels for TEs. Interesting on Lock is that he is only under contract for 3 more years. I thought the chiefs needed a really good safety that can protect against the deep ball in the near future, because they will face Ruggs and Jeudy in 4 games per season. They did draft a great coverage LB with phenomenal athleticism, so they recognized the great TE play of the division. So WTF was Green Bay thinking? It is funny that Rodgers is getting the Brett Favre treatment.
4. POTUS 2020. I don't have a lot of time this morning, so I am going with 4 thoughts. Polls continue to be all over the place. Last week there were polls that had Trump and Biden neck and neck in key battleground states. Then there were polls that had them with Biden having a sizeable lead. I think the longer the shutdown goes at the local level (not countrywide) and you have open states seeing success and not a lot of new cases, that bodes well for Trump. The opposite true for Biden. It will be crazy to see. I cannot make a prediction right now. The only thing I feel confidant in is that one of Trump or Biden won't be on the ballot this November. Either Trump backs out or Biden is forced out. That's my bold call.
