Here is the f/u to the article from yesterday about how successful the SECN was in its first year of operation. Bottom line: THE most successful cable network launch EVER.
They project there is still room for revenue growth of the monthly subscriber fee, which they view as a very reasonable expectation.
However, don't spend all that money just yet. With technology changing so quickly, there is always the risk of unbundling. To break even, one estimate was that ESPN would have to raise its monthly fee to over $36.00/month. Wow. SECN would be significantly more reasonably priced at "only" $10-11/month.
I don't know what will happen -- I just think it is very interesting to watch. And I'm glad Disney/ESPN are working WITH the SEC instead of AGAINST the SEC.
