Saw this on another team's board, thought I'd bring it here for Mizzou fans. What are, in your opinion, the most important plays in Mizzou football history? By this, I mean a combination of what they did in a particular game or season as well as what they did for the program. I'll list five, with full admission that I don't know a ton about individual plays/scenarios prior to 1990ish.
--Henry Josey's touchdown run over A&M to clinch the East in 2013: I think I'd put this number one. Missouri was looking for footing in the SEC. Winning the East gave the Tigers that footing.
--Defense sacks Reesing for a safety to ice Armageddon at Arrowhead in 2007: Signature play of the biggest game in school history, IMO. I was going to pick a Chase Daniel play from this game, cause that was certainly his day, but no one play is as emblematic of that game as this one.
--Marcus King's 99-yard INT return vs South Carolina in Independence Bowl 2005: Turned what was going to be a 35-7 deficit into 28-14 and set the stage for a second half comeback and, in my opinion, saved jobs (though probably not Pinkel's). This is the other one I'd consider for #1 because I think a lot of what happened with the program doesn't happen without this play.
--Fifth Down: I didn't say they'd all be positive. I think a win in that game could have changed the course of the program. Stull might have made a bowl game and if that happened, who knows?
--Fake field goal Sonny Riccio to Victor Sesay in win over Nebraska in 2003: Beating the Huskers hadn't happened in a quarter century. This game notified Nebraska that there was another player in the Big 12 North. This was the start of the rise of Pinkel's program (along with the decline of Colorado and K-State and, really, the beginning of the end of Nebraska as a nationally elite program).
