Moving the Early Signing Period

This morning on Full Ride, both Rick Neuheisel & Mike Farrell recommended moving the early signing period to August/Labor Day. This would allow early signers to enjoy their senior season and not create such a cluster-cuss in December with the portal. I like the idea. Any reasons why it shouldn't happen?
