I am interested in hearing from the enlightened folks on here what their thoughts are with regards to the following:
1. MPJ has back surgery to fix a chronic pain issue letting him play free and without pain (provided he comes back) this season. It won't be plaguing him or in the back of his mind when he does play.
2. MPJ averages 25 shots a game in the three preseason games and Mizzou goes 1-2. This is about 250% more shots than anyone else on the team currently averages this year (KR takes 11 shots a game and JB 10). From the sidelines he watches us play team ball and understands how the offense flows. Mizzou as a team this season averages 54 shots a game, this would mean MPJ takes about 46% of the shots if the number held. Sounds a little like hero ball. From a comparison standpoint, Trae Young who is a volume scorer/shooter takes about 19 shots a game and hits at around a 46% clip.
3. KR, JP, and JB prove during the season to be bonafide contributors and high caliber players at this level, thus allowing MPJ not to have to feel like he has to carry the load himself (AKA - taking 25 shots each time out).
I think that if/when he comes back we could end up being a better team come March than we would be if he had never had the surgery. Thoughts?
