My oldest son hasn’t yet been confused as the most athletic kid in his class, but he has a motor that won’t stop. Due to my health issues he has been distance learning for two years. This year all my kids will be back in the classroom, thank God! My oldest son said “Dad, can I play football?” I replied, “there is a junior high camp coming up. If you start the camp you must finish the camp. If you still like football after the camp you can go out for the team, but if you go out for the team you won’t quit the team.” He said, “ok, but I’m going to be a receiver.” I didn’t know what to expect, but his first time in full pads and third ever time on a football field he caught a thirty yard touchdown pass! He was over the moon! Now, he may never do anything like that again, or it may be the start of a very productive career. Who knows? I can tell you watching your kid pumped up and on top of the world because he accomplished something like that when he didn’t know if he could is the reason our children play sports. He is less like a boy and more like a man after that moment. Don’t miss these moments, cherish them. Sports are a metaphor for life. My son gained self confidence that day, and I couldn’t be prouder. Thanks for reading folks!
