He's undoubtedly a very good DC. His potential as an HC is/was respected enough that Pinkel endorsed him for the job. I think he may well be a good HC someday.
But he's just so inexperienced. He and Bob Stoops were both hired at 39, and Stoops was considered very young for the job at the time. But Stoops had been a DC for 8 seasons at K-State and Florida -- he had 8x the P5 coordinator experience than Odom does and he was considered young and inexperienced!
If HCBO pulls this off, it'll only be because he is an absolute wunderkind. However, I think he is probably 5-10 years away from being ready for what he's facing.
