Everybody has a "source." I have had no fewer than ten people text, email or DM me to tell me they know somebody who knows somebody who knows the doctor and this is what's going on. I've received at least five different diagnoses in those messages. So a minimum of four of them are wrong.

The doctors who are treating him, who actually DO know, aren't telling anybody. If they do, they'll get fired. I know some people that work in the medical field in town. They don't WANT to know. Because they don't want to have to be in the position to keep it a secret. So "my friend knows his doctor" is either completely false or the doctor is breaking the law and should be fired.

That said, he's getting a second opinion today and seeing a specialist. Who that is, I don't know. Is it in Dallas? Maybe. But Dallas can connect to a lot of places. Mike knows a ton of people, including NBA people. So he could be seeing just about anybody for just about anything.

It is my opinion (not based purely on speculation, but obviously at least in part) that there's no specific diagnosis like "he has a strained quad" or "he has a herniated disk." The kid is going to play when he feels ready to play and his family feels comfortable with him playing. If that means they want to go get a second opinion to see if a doctor of their choosing can find something the Mizzou people can't find, so be it, let him do it.

I understand the frustration with wanting to know more. Hell, I want to know more so I'm not answering the same questions 15 times every day. It puts Mizzou's PR people in a really tough spot. First of all, they can only say what the family is okay with them saying. No more. Period. This is a legal thing. Second, if their doctors don't have anything specific to report and are saying, "It's day to day, he'll play when he's ready," then what else are they gonna say? I don't think the doctors are keeping him off the court. I think he has to be comfortable and confident to play. When he is, he will.

That could be soon, it could be a while. I have no idea. And I'm not going to tell you not to speculate and ask and talk about it because that's silly. But we're not really going to have any answers until he's either on the court or has gotten some diagnosis that tells him he can't be that the family wants us to know.

That's what I've got. Back to writing my football notebook and getting ready for the hoops game.
