My Two Cents on the QBs

Lock's performance was reminiscent of what we've come to expect from a Mizzou QB. No, the yardage wasn't much to write home about, but the completion percentage was. He completed the routine passes that kept drives alive, and, most important, he hit receivers in stride. That has been my biggest knock on Mauk. His fundamentals/footwork aren't where they should be for a guy who's in his fourth year in the program, and most of the routine throws that make this offense thrive become adventures. So what should be a 10- or 12-yard completion on third down results in a five-yard gain (if the pass is completed at all) and a punt. Funny, but Mauk throws a better deep ball because he gets his feet set, squares his shoulders and steps into the throw.

Yeah, Lock got away with an especially bad throw, but other than that he was solid. The two TD passes were things of beauty. I think you'll see fewer drops from the receiving corps because you're going to see more passes right on the money. We'll also see receivers making more plays. Exhibit A was Hilton's tumbling catch, which kept the first TD drive alive. We saw this plenty with Daniel, who on the rare occasion he made an off-target throw was rescued by Maclin, Coffman, Rucker et al. Receivers are eager to make plays for a QB who can spin it.

I'm in no way suggesting Lock is the next Chase Daniel (and I wouldn't be surprised to see him take a step or two back this week), but I do believe this could be the start of something special.
