Positives:
1) nearly 500 yards total offense
2) nearly 300 yards passing
3) great punt coverage
4) made some red zone stands
5) team battled and did not quit
6) see some potential for offensive play makers to emerge
7) attacked the middle of the field with some success
Negatives
1) dropped passes continue to stymie offense
2) failure to convert scoring opportunities in red zone
3) lack of pass rush and sacks
4) inconsistency and lack of big plays out of running backs
5) FG unit and KO cover unit both poor
6) defense gashed for nearly 500 yards and 26 points
7) inconsistency and lack of enough explosive plays on offense
8) inconsistency on both sides of the ball
Overall thoughts:
Very dissappointing final result. We saw some signs of potential but obviously there is lots if work to do.
Leaders and crunch time play makers need to emerge.
Total team loss...plenty of blame to go around for all players and all units.
Coaches and players alike need to figure out roles and maximize team strengths and minimize weaknesses.
Will this team pull together and improve or point fingers and fall apart?
My bet is on the former... but marked improvement over the next two games is critical.
By the end of the Georgia game we will have a real good idea of how this season will play out.
