Looking for the ballgame encapsulated?
Try these stats on for size:
Offensive Rebounds: AU 8 MU 13
2nd Chance Points: AU 21 MU 8
That equates, in essence, to Auburn hitting 7-8 on 3s after offensive rebounds. More in-depth, out of a possible 24 points (sans and-one opportunities), they scored a ridiculous 21 (87.5 efficiency); contrasted with Mizzou's pedestrian 8 points scored out of a potential 39 (20.5%)...and that almost by itself is the ballgame. It's also a complete lack of closeouts the perimeter, and astonishingly bad execution after securing the offensive glass.
Oh, and the 20 turnovers were a problem.
This team can't add enough ball handlers in the offseason. The ball is stickier in Jordan Geist's hands (who is admittedly Cuonzo's best option) than a 400-pound klepto executing a dine 'n waddle getaway at a Golden Corral.
Jontay seems afraid of contact when he HAS the ball.
Jeremiah Tilmon...seriously?
Very impressed overall thus far with Cuonzo Martin. And hopefull, this will be a teachable moment for him.
But to cut back to the theme, for old time's sake...that was UGLY.
