I knew this board would be negative following the loss, but I guess I'm a bit more optimistic going forward than most.

Here's why:

- Defense was improved. Only gave up 24 points (and 7 on a very short field). Signs of progress there.

- Run game was good. If we can gash teams on the ground, we should have a chance to win games.

- Offense (and DL in particular) was not good. But if there is one side of the ball that has talent and coaching to do better, it is offense. They played very poorly against SC, but I'm not writing them off yet.

- Special teams was a total disaster, but you'd have to think it can't be that bad every week. If Tucker McCann puts the kickoff after our TD through the back of the endzone it's a totally different game... We might never be good on special teams, but I'd like to think we'll never be worse than on Saturday.

With a good run game and an average defense, we should be in most games (as long as special teams isn't a total disaster).
